Free cert check · Cards

Check a cert.

Pick the grader and enter the number from the label. You see what our watch holds on that cert, and you get a link to the grader’s own record. Free, with no account.

Grader

The number printed on the label, digits only.

We do not look the cert up on the grader’s site for you; we link you there. We count checks, never the numbers checked.

What this check reads

Two records, and the card in your hand.

  1. 01

    Our watch

One public platform vault index, Collector Crypt, read every morning from public chain data. If the cert is listed there, you see the vault its record names, the card and grade on the record, and when our watch saw it.

  2. 02

    The grader

A link to the grader's own lookup for the number you entered. That page is the grader's record of what it graded. We link to it; we never fetch or copy it.

  3. 03

    You

The card in your hand. A record only helps once it is matched to the card: the images, the label and who has held it since it was graded.

What a cert does and doesn’t prove

A cert records a grading. The card still has to be matched to it.

Step by step for each grader, and what to ask before you buy a slab.

  1. 01

A cert records what was graded, not who holds it.

It ties a number to the card, the grade and the label the grader saw on the day it graded the card. It says nothing about who holds the card now, or how it got there.

  2. 02

A deactivated cert fails the lookup without saying why.

When a grader deactivates a cert, its lookup stops showing the record. A mistyped number or a record not yet published can look the same. On 19 October 2026 PSA said it had deactivated the certs of items taken from a third-party shipping vehicle (Heavy).

  3. 03

Once a slab is cracked, the cert stays behind.

The number belongs to the slab and its label. A card taken out of its slab no longer carries that cert, and it can be graded again under a new number.

  4. 04

Match the grader's images to the card in hand.

Where the grader shows images of the card, set them beside the card and the label in front of you: the corners, the centring, the surface and the label itself.

  5. 05

Ask for the chain of custody since grading.

Who has held the card since it left the grader, and how it moved. A cert cannot answer that. The people who held the card can, in writing.

Field notes by email

The desk’s notes, dated and sourced.

What changed in grading, custody and the card market, and how to check it yourself. Methods, never cases.

Once a week. We email once to confirm first, and every issue unsubscribes in one click. Your address is used for the notes and nothing else. Privacy
